American Dental Association (ADA)
The American Dental Association, commonly known as the ADA, is the largest and oldest national dental organization in the United States. Founded in 1859, the ADA represents more than 160,000 dentists and dental students across the country and serves as the leading authority on oral health in America.

The ADA’s mission is to promote the dental profession, advance the science of dentistry, and improve the oral health of the public. It does this through research, education, advocacy, and setting standards that guide dental care nationwide.
One of the most well known things the ADA does is evaluate dental products for safety and effectiveness. When a toothpaste, toothbrush, or mouthwash earns the ADA Seal of Acceptance, it means the product has been rigorously tested and proven to do what it claims. That little seal is something worth looking for when you are shopping for oral care products.

The ADA also publishes clinical guidelines and evidence based recommendations that dentists and dental hygienists use to deliver the best possible care to their patients. Everything from how often you should get a dental cleaning to the recommended fluoride levels in drinking water has been shaped in part by ADA research and policy.
For patients, the ADA offers a wealth of free resources at ada.org, including a dentist finder, oral health topics, and guidance on everything from tooth decay prevention to dental emergencies.

Whether you realize it or not, the ADA has likely influenced the dental care you receive at every appointment. It is the backbone of organized dentistry in the U.S. and a trusted source for both dental professionals and everyday patients looking to protect their smiles.
